Squirrel Mom’s Heartwarming Reunion with Her Babies After Hurricane Isaias | Super Cute!
After Hurricane Isaias swept through our neighborhood, I set out to clear fallen branches when I heard the unmistakable sounds of baby animals. To my surprise, what I discovered wasn’t baby birds but the cutest baby squirrels! I had never seen them up close and instantly fell in love with these adorable creatures.
Upon closer inspection, I found two more baby squirrels nestled beneath the broken branches. Unsure of how to help, I quickly consulted the internet for guidance on caring for wild baby animals. I was relieved to find detailed instructions on the Garden State Wildlife Center’s website. Following their advice, I placed the baby squirrels in a box lined with one of my flannel shirts and added a homemade heating pad—a microwaved sock filled with rice. I positioned the box in a safe spot nearby, hoping their mother would come back for them.
As evening fell, I watched the box nervously from my window. The website suggested the mother would return by dusk, and thankfully, she did! After some cautious sniffing, she gathered her babies and took them to their new nest. My heart swelled with relief as the adorable family was reunited, turning a challenging day into a beautiful memory.

baby squirrels can't stay warm, drink, eat, or eliminate without help till 90 days old
mom will not reject a baby for your scent BUT MOM WILL REJECT A COLD BABY,
so bring it inside to warm it up to human body temperature & Reunite it with mom if you can, ,

use its weight in grams divided by 20 to set how many cc's to feed it every 2 hours &
to prevent aspiration pneumonia feed it via 1 – 3 CC oral syringe feeder lying tummy

rehydrate it for a day using Pedialyte ,
they NEED mom or formula to supply adequate nutrition till they reject it at 10 weeks old
a FAST growing baby squirrel needs wildlife grade formulas used in a zoo ,,
"fox valley " or a very few puppy formulas like Esbilac work the best or a
TEMPORARY formula of 3 parts goats milk, 1 part yogurt 1 part heavy whipping cream
a squirrels weight in grams is 20 times the safe stomach capacity in ml & cc's per feeding
so
find its weight in grams divide it by 20 , & thats the number of ML/CC's to feed each meal
this "5 percent rule" stomach capacity to weight ratio quantity as each meal
only works if you use a metric gram scale
at 6 weeks of age let it practice gnawing solids like; fruits, monkey chow, & dry Puppy science diet.
at 8 week of age test if a baby squirrel can drink water from a shallow container AND crack a nut
look up nesting box & pre-release cage so you can slowly free it,
because after 6 months of age squirrels become unpleasantly wild
There is some good information on the Internet, but other sites
give advice that will kill the animals & some do this on purpose
Cow’s milk, goat’s milk, human baby formulas, & "most" other pet products lack nutritional value,
are less digestible & boiling or scalding them wont fix it over the long term of 2 months
these eventually WILL cause failure to thrive, MDB , & death due to malnutrition
squirrels don't get & or survive rabies long enough to give it & head trauma mimics rabies
baby squirrels can be fearless & very sociable, so, its only an orphan if it pursues or climbs you,
or a pet BUT stop ANY pets from touching it since digestive & oral bacteria can kill it
